Jonathan Palmer was the main researcher for this project and also maintains this web site. Jon finished his M.S. degree in Mycology at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with Dr. Thomas Volk in December 2006. His thesis entitled: "Morphological and molecular characterization of mycorrhizal fungi associated with a disjunct stand of American chestnut (Castanea dentata) in Wisconsin" won the 2007 Outstanding Thesis Award at UW-La Crosse. Since graduating from UW-L, Jon is pursuing a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology at UW-Madison. He is working on secondary metabolisim in Aspergillus spp. in the laboratory of Nancy Keller. You can see Jon's CV here and contact him at Jon@ChestnutFungi.com.
Dr. Thomas Volk is a professor in the Biology department at the Unviversity of Wisconsin La Crosse. Tom teaches a wide range of mycology courses at UW-L; Mycology, Medical Mycology, Advanced Mycology, Plant-Microbe Interactions, Industrial Mycology, Latin and Greek for Scientists, and Plant Biology. He has been awarded the W. H. Weston Award for Teaching Excellence by the Mycological Society of America (MSA) and has done research in a wide range of mycology. (see his CV here) One of Tom's greatest contributions to mycology is his webpage (www.TomVolkFungi.net) that has been online since 1995.
Dr. Daniel Lindner Czederpiltz is a research plant pathologist at the Center for Forest Mycology Research at the USDA Forest Products Lab located in Madison, WI. Dan is on advisor to this project and his lab is also responsible for the DNA sequencing. Dan specializes in wood-decay fungi especially extracting DNA from wood and other substrates. Dan has also done work with Aspen mycorrhizae and various other molecular based projects. Dan is a mycological celebrity, atleast as far as I am concerned, he made the New York Times for some work that he did in Belize.
Erik Krohn is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with a degree in computer science and is currently in a PhD program at the University of Iowa. Erik helped immensly with the PHP script and some of the general webpage design, without his help this project would never have been completed. It would be fair to say that I owe him one, and maybe even two. Erik is also kind enough to allow me to use his server until I can find a permanent server.
